A Study of Patient Teaching Plan

Abstract
Patient teaching is an essential part of a total patient care. The recent trend of adapting DRG¢¥s for hospital reimbursement in addition to numerous findings of noncompliance due to lack of patient knowledge resulting from negligent patient education will bring more emphasis on the health professional¢¥s responsibility for patient teaching.
Due to the nature of the nurse-patient relationship, nurses are in a very unique position to be the most significant teachers. It is an important to consider how well the teaching plan is structured and what teaching methods are used in order to meet patient¢¥s educational needs.
In this study, the nursing process (1)assessment (2)planning (3)implementation and (4)evaluation is used in relation to the teaching-learning process. A teaching plan of stoma irrigation for colostomy patient is illustrated.
